This interesting paper, which is part of a larger program pursued by the authors, deals with the construction of continuous wavelet systems on a particular manifold, using the theory of square-integrable group representations. The group in question is the conformal group \(SO(4,2)\), acting on the Cartan domain \(\mathbb{D}_4 = SO(4,2)/(SO(4) \times SO(2))\), and the representation acts on the space \(\text{L}^2_h(\mathbb{D}_4)\) of holomorphic functions that are square-integrable functions with respect to the invariant measure on \(\mathbb{D}_4\). The extended MacMahon-Schwinger theorem mentioned in the title provides an explicit unitary equivalence between \(\text{L}^2_h(\mathbb{D}_4)\) and another holomorphic \(\text{L}^2\)-space, \(\text{L}^2_h(\mathbb{C}^4_+)\), and it is used mainly to transfer results concerning wavelets on the former space to the latter one. The authors note that the representation acts on \(\text{L}^2_h(\mathbb{D}_4)\) as an irreducible, square-integrable representation, giving rise to an isometric continuous wavelet transform. The proofs rely mostly on explicit calculations, which are often of independent interest. Besides presenting these results, the paper takes care to explain the physical significance and motivation for studying this particular representation. It also contains a detailed discussion placing the construction in a wider context of recently constructed wavelet transforms on manifolds.
