The authors consider loops that are extensions of a group \(A\) by a loop \(S\) [see \textit{P. T. Nagy} and \textit{K. Strambach}, Czech. Math. J. 58, No. 3, 759-786 (2008; Zbl 1166.20058)]. Such an extension \(L\) is said to be Steiner-like, if \(S\) is a Steiner loop (i.e. it satisfies the identities \(xy=yx\) and \(x(xy)=y\)) and the multiplication of \(L=S\times A\) is given by \((s,a)(t,b)=(st,h(s)h(t)ab)\) for distinct \(s,t\in S\setminus\{1\}\) with some map \(h\colon S\to A\). The authors investigate weak associativity properties, automorphisms and isomorphisms of \(L\), and they show that restricted Fischer groups become relevant in connection with the right alternative property.
