The author proves two alternative principles in locally convex Hausdorff topological vector spaces. The alternative principles are applied to obtain two matching theorems of Ky Fan type, and several analytic alternatives as well as minimax inequalities are given. Two very general alternative theorems concerning existence of solutions of a vector equilibrium problem are also established.
