The numerical solution of linear hyperbolic partial differential equations formulated as time-domain boundary integral equations is considered. The discretization in time is done by using convolution quadrature and for the discretization in space a standard Galerkin boundary element method is used. The approximation of the kernel function in the integral equation by the weight functions in the corresponding semi-discrete convolutional system is analyzed. An algorithm for solving the problems considered is described and the efficient implementation is discussed. Numerical examples illustrating the theoretical results are presented.
