The authors use the mixed finite element method to study Darcy flow in a porous medium. Utilizing a new family of mixed finite element spaces of higher order on quadrilateral grids, the authors prove the superconvergence for velocity. A post-processing technique is used to improve the suboptimal convergence of a scalar variable (pressure). Superconvergence is also obtained for scalar variables in the case of a rectangular element.
