The exponential stability of steady solutions of the system of MHD equations is studied for a viscous conducting incompressible medium. The authors prove the existence of global strong solutions (with initial data) belonging to a non-smooth disturbance family of steady solutions in Lebesgue spaces. Then the asymptotic behaviour of a solution perturbed around the non-trivial steady solution is obtained, and exponential decay rates are established for the solution and its gradient. Finally, the authors demonstrate the existence of a strong solution with a faster decay towards the zero.
