The concept of \(\alpha\)-nonexpansive mapping in a Banach space is introduced and some generalizations of previous theorems from Hilbert to Banach spaces are given. Definition. Let \(E\) be a Banach space and \(C\subset E\). A mapping \(T:C\to E\) is called \(\alpha\)-nonexpansive if \(\alpha<1\) and, for each \(x,y\in C\), the following relation holds: \[ \|Tx-Ty\|^2\leq \alpha\|Tx-y\|^2+\alpha\|Ty-x\|^2+(1-2\alpha)\|x-y\|^2. \] The main result of the paper is a fixed point theorem for \(\alpha\)-nonexpansive mappings in uniformly convex Banach spaces.
