The authors start out with a \(C_0\)-semigroup \(V(t)\) of the type \(\omega>1\), that is, \(\|V(t)\|\leq K\exp(-\omega t)\), \(t\geq0\), which acts in the Banach space \(E\). Its generator \(A\) is a densely defined, closed linear operator. They show that the operator \(\mu(A):=A-\sqrt{A^2-I}\) is well defined, bounded in \(E\), and give bounds for the norms of its powers \[ \|(\mu(A))^n\|\leq K(\omega-\sqrt{\omega^2-1})^n. \] The main object under consideration is the infinite block-Jacobi matrix \(J(A)=J(\{-I\},\{2A\},\{-I\})\), which acts in the Banach space \(\ell^p(E)\), \(p\geq1\). The main result states that the operator \(J(A)\) is invertible, and \[ J^{-1}(A)=\|\gamma_{ik}(A)\|_{i,k=1}^\infty, \quad \gamma_{ik}(A)=\begin{cases} U_{i-1}(A)\,\mu^k(A), &i\leq k; \\ U_{k-1}(A)\,\mu^i(A), &i>k,\end{cases} \] where \(U_n(A)\) are the second kind operator Chebyshev polynomials. Its norm is bounded by \[ \|J^{-1}(A)\|\leq\frac{K(1+|\omega|-\sqrt{\omega^2-1})} {2(1-|\omega|+\sqrt{\omega^2-1})\sqrt{\omega^2-1}}\,. \]
