The authors study high order cubature formulas for the computation of harmonic potentials \[ \frac{\Gamma(n/2-1)}{4\pi^{n/2}} \int_{\mathbb{R}_+^n} \frac{f(\mathbf{y})}{|\mathbf{x}-\mathbf{y}|^{n-2}} d\mathbf{y}, n\geq 3 \] in terms of the so called concept of approximate approximations which allows to construct efficient cubature formulas for convolution integral operators with singular kernels [for details we refer to \textit{V. Maz'ya} and \textit{G. Schmidt}, Approximate approximations. Mathematical Surveys and Monographs 141. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (2007; Zbl 1120.41013)]). The reduction of the cubature of the potential to the quadrature of one-dimensional integrals over the half-line is in the core of the applied approach. The theoretically predicted approximation errors are demonstrated with numerical experiments to the approximation of the three-dimensional volume potential.
