The authors investigate the stability of a domain-wall brane model arising in classical field theory. The original model is reduced to the system of two ordinary differential equations \[ \begin{aligned} \phi'' = & \left[\omega^{2}+\left(\frac{K A^{2}}{4}\operatorname{sech}^{2}x + 3\lambda\nu^{2}\tanh^{2}x-\lambda\nu^{2}\right)\right]\phi + \frac{5 A K \nu}{\sqrt{20}}\operatorname{sech}\,x\tanh x\psi,\\ \psi'' = & \left[\omega^{2} + 1 + (3 A^{2}\gamma_{1} - K \nu^{2})\operatorname{sech}^{2}x\right]\psi + \frac{4 A K \nu}{\sqrt{20}}\operatorname{sech}\,x\,\text{tanh}\,x\phi \end{aligned} \] subject to the boundary conditions \[ \lim_{|x|\to\infty}\phi(x) = 0 = \lim_{|x|\to\infty}\psi(x). \] The authors prove the nonexistence of nontrivial bounded solutions of this boundary value problem for an open set of the parameters. Moreover, the existence of nontrivial solutions for a hypersurface of the parameters is established. The authors use Fredholm theory for compact linear operators combined with the Lyapunov-Schmidt method to prove their results. Finally, let us note that the model is stable if and only if the corresponding boundary value problem does not have nontrivial solutions.
