In the simply connected domain \(D= \{(x,y): 0< x< l,0< y< h\}\) of independent variables \((x,y)\), the linear third-order partial differential equation \[ Mu\equiv\Biggl(\alpha{\partial\over\partial x}+ \beta{\partial\over\partial y}\Biggr) (u_{xx} - u_{yy})+ Lu= f(x,y) \] is considered. Here \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) are given constants, \(\alpha^2+ \beta^2\neq 0\), and \(L\) is a linear differential expression of the form \[ Lu\equiv a(x,y) u_{xx}+ 2b(x,y) u_{xy}+ c(x,y) u_{yy}+ a_1(x,y) u_x+ b_1(x,y) u_y+ c_1(x,y)u. \] The paper studies the existence of classical solutions to the Goursat and Dirichlet problems and also to some nonlocal boundary-value problems for such linear third-order hyperbolic equations in a corresponding rectangular domain. An analog of the Riemann function for the general linear third-order hyperbolic equation with variable coefficients is constructed, and a representation of the general solution with wave operator in the principal part is obtained. As a result, the studied problems are reduced to a uniquely solvable integral equation. Thus, theorems of existence, uniqueness and stability of solutions of the problem are proved. The effects of the influence of coefficients standing by lower derivatives on the well-posedness of the considered problems are revealed.
