The authors study holomorphic almost periodic functions by seeing them as functions on coverings of complex manifolds. In the classical example of holomorphic almost periodic functions on a tube domain \(T = \mathbb{R}^n+ i \Omega\), with \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n\) open and convex, an exponential map \(p : T \to T_{0}\) gives us a regular covering with deck transformation group \(\mathbb{Z}^n\). Holomorphic almost periodic functions on \(T\) then turn out to be exactly the holomorphic functions that are almost periodic on each fiber \(p^{-1}(z)\simeq \mathbb{Z}^n\) in the sense of von Neumann and bounded on the subsets of the form \(p^{-1}(U_{0})\), with \(U_{0} \Subset T_{0}\). Along those lines, the authors introduce the notion of holomorphic almost periodic functions on spaces \(X\) that admit a free and properly discontinuous holomorphic action of a discrete maximally almost periodic group \(G\) (using the quotient morphism \(X \to X/G\) as \(p\)). They prove that this condition is equivalent to another one requiring the relative compactness of families of \(G\)-translates of the functions. The covering point of view makes it possible to construct other interesting spaces from \(X\). As a matter of fact, it is a principal \(G\)-fibre bundle and one may naturally associate to it a principal \(\mathcal{C}(bG)\)-fiber bundle \(CX\). The authors prove that the holomorphic functions on \(CX\) coincide with the holomorphic almost periodic functions on \(X\). Let us point out that this kind of construction makes the techniques of Banach-valued complex analysis available. Another construction that the authors use is the fibrewise Bohr compactification of the covering \(X\). The authors define holomorphic functions on the resulting space \(bX\) and prove that the global ones give back exactly the holomorphic almost periodic functions on \(X\). They also show that Cartan's theorem B is satisfied: for any coherent sheaf \(\mathcal{F}\) and any \(i\geq 1\), we have \(H^i(bX,\mathcal{F})=0\). With the help of the two constructions we mention, many results about holomorphic almost periodic functions can be proved. To finish, let us just mention that the paper contains approximation theorems (analogous to the density of exponential polynomials in holomorphic almost periodic functions on tubes domains), extension theorems for functions defined on subvarieties or subdomains under some conditions, a study of almost periodic divisors, etc.
