Homeomorphisms of the annulus have been of great importance in dynamical systems for many years. \textit{F. Béguin, S. Crovisier} and \textit{F. Le Roux} [Bull. Braz. Math. Soc. (N.S.) 37, No.~2, 275--306 (2006; Zbl 1105.37029)] considered a lift \(h:\mathbb R^2\to\mathbb R^2\) of a homeomorphism \(H:S^1\times\mathbb R\to S^1\times\mathbb R\) of the open annulus isotopic to the identity and preserving Lebesgue measure. Using a notion of the rotation interval developed by \textit{P. Le Calvez} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 129, No.~11, 3221--3230 (2001; Zbl 0990.37029)], they show that if the closure of the rotation interval of \(h\) is contained in \((0,\infty)\) then \(h\) is conjugate to a translation. Having the rotation set contained in \((0,\infty)\) is not sufficient for the result by an example of Le Roux. Here the structure of such maps is studied, and it is shown that if \(h\) is a lift with no fixed point of a homeomorphism of an open annulus isotopic to the identity and without a wandering point, then there is a \(h\)-invariant dense open set on which it is conjugate to a translation. The action of \(h\) on the compactly connected components of the closed complement of this set is also studied.
