In [Sci. Sin. 14, 457--460 (1965; Zbl 0163.04004)] \textit{Ko Chao (Ke Zhao)} proved that the equation \(x^m= y^2- 1\) has only the positive integer solution \((x,y,m)= (2,3,3)\) with \(\min(x,y,m)> 1\). This result verifies an important case of Catalan's conjecture. In the present paper, the author gives a new proof of the above-mentioned result.
