The author considers the one parameter set of varieties \({\mathcal M}(R), R\in {\mathbb R}\) given by \[ {\mathcal M}(R)=\{(x,y,z)\in {\mathbb R}^3 \mid z^2+(x^2+y^2-R)^2=1\}. \] The variety \({\mathcal M}(R)\) has different topologies depending on the value of \(R\) (varying from zero to a point, a sphere, a variety and finally a torus) and there is a Poisson structure on \({\mathcal M}(R)\). The author introduces a one parameter set of complex noncommutative algebras \({\mathcal A}(R)\). For each value of \(R\), the algebra \({\mathcal A}(R)\) is obtained from \({\mathcal M}(R)\) by a quantization procedure. Then the commutative limit of \({\mathcal A}(R)\) corresponds to the algebra of polynomial functions over \({\mathcal M}(R)\). The author studies the irreducible adjoint preserving finite dimensional representations \(\Psi : {\mathcal A}(R) \rightarrow M_n({\mathbb C})\). These representations can be classified as either \(S^2\)-type representations or \(T^2\)-type representations by comparing them to the representations of the noncommutative sphere or the noncommutative torus. Depending on the value of \(R\) one or the other of these representations exists. It is shown that there is a region of \(R\) where both types of representations exist. This region called the sphere-torus is a purely noncommutative region, it disappears in the commutative limit.
