The authors define a multidimensional decreasing rearrangement by using the so-called layer-cake formula. The main measure theoretical results of the new rearrangement are proven and the relationship with the classical rearrangement is established. They introduce the weighted Lorentz spaces associated with the new multidimensional decreasing rearrangement and find their relationship with the Lebesgue and the rearrangement invariant spaces, prove the different embedding theorems, and characterize functional properties like quasinormability and normability. For simplicity, they consider the two-dimensional case.
