Let \(S\) be a subset of \(N\) and \(R\) be a commutative ring with a unit. The author considers the completion \(R[x]^S= \varprojlim R[x]/(f(x))\) of \(R[x]\), where \(f\) runs over all products of the powers of cyclotomic polynomials \(x^n- 1\), with \(n\in S\). The author studies algebraic properties of \(R[x]^S\). We quote as an example proposition 6.1. If \(R\) is a subring of an algebraic closure of \(Q\) and \(S\) is infinite, then the ring \(R[x]^S\) is not an ideal-adic completion of \(R[x]\).
