Let \(P_ n\) denote the set of real algebraic polynomials of degree at most n, and \(\| \cdot \|_ A\) the supremum norm on A. Denote by \(P^ k_ n\) the class of those polynomials in \(P_ n\) which have all but at most k roots in \({\mathbb{R}}\setminus (-1,1).\) By analysis of results of Markov, Erdős, Borwein, Bernstein and Szabados the author of this paper suggested that if \(p_ n\in P^ k_ n\) then \[ | p_ n'(x)| \leq \frac{c\sqrt{n(k+1)}}{\sqrt{1-x^ 2}}\| p_ n\|_{[-1,1]},\quad | x| <1. \] He proved (Theorem 1): If \(p_ n\in P^ k_ n\) and \(x\in (-1,1)\) then \[ | p_ n'(x)| \leq \frac{c(k+1)^ 2\sqrt{n+1}}{1-x^ 2}\| p_ n\|_{[-1,1]}, \] where c is an absolute constant independent of k and n. For the proof the author needs 7 lemmas. Estimates for higher derivatives and some other inequalities are also investigated.
