The authors give a generalized version of the Schwarz-Christoffel (SC-) formula for the mapping f of a region \(R_ w\) onto a region \(R_ z\), which involves Green's function for the region \(R_ w\) and the tangent angles \(\theta_ w\) and \(\theta_ z\) on \(\partial R_ w\) and \(\partial R_ z\). The boundaries are assumed to be piecewise smooth, and the formula reduces to the classical SC-formula if \(R_ w\) is the upper half plane and \(R_ z\) is a polygonal domain. For the practical computation of f an integro-differential equation for \(\theta_ z\) and the boundary correspondence has to be solved which raises the question why this method should be preferred over other known ones. The case of periodic channels involves Jacobi \(\vartheta\)-functions, as would be if the problem is transformed into a mapping for ring domains. This is Garrick's method (1936); see the reviewer's book [Konstruktive Methoden der konformen Abbildung, Chapter V, {\S} 3 (1964; Zbl 0132.367)]. If \(R_ w=\{w:| w| <1\}\), the authors' formula is already in study [Vorlesungen über ausgewählte Gegenstände der Geometrie; Teubner, Leipzig 1913]. There are no experiments.
