Let T be a linear mapping from a linear subspace D of a normed algebra A into a normal algebra B and let \(\sigma\) (T) its separating space, i.e. \(\sigma (T):=\{b\in B:\) there exists a sequence \((a_ n)\) in D with \(a_ n\to 0\) and \(Ta_ n\to b\}\). When A and B are unital, the author shows that if for any a in D, the spectrum of Ta is contained in the spectrum of a, and the range of T is of finite or countable codimension, then either \(\sigma\) (T) is not a sub-algebra of B or \(\sigma\) (T) consists of quasi-nilpotent elements. Recall that an element x is called quasi-nilpotent if its spectral radius is zero. Moreover, some results pertaining to the closability of densely defined derivations in simple unital Banach algebras are also obtained.
