In this note, an earlier assertion of the author [in (2) of {\S} 2.2 of his paper in J. Algebra 90, 567-605 (1984; Zbl 0549.10021)] concerning the maximality of certain arithmetic subgroups in \(PGL_ 2(k)\) for an algebraic number field k is rectified; further, necessary and sufficient conditions are given for groups of this type to be maximal arithmetic.
