[This article has been reviewed together with the preceding one (Zbl 0626.17010).] Let \({\mathfrak G}\) denote a restricted Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic p. Proceeding as for finite groups the authors first associate to \({\mathfrak G}\) the affine variety \(| {\mathfrak G}|\) of the cohomology ring \(H^{even}({\mathfrak G},k)\) and then to any restricted \({\mathfrak G}\)-module M the socalled support variety which is the support in \(| {\mathfrak G}|\) of the \(H^{even}({\mathfrak G},k)\)-module \(Ext^._{{\mathfrak G}}(M,M)\). One may then ask whether the results of Quillen, Avrunin-Scott and Carlson for finite groups have counterparts for \({\mathfrak G}.\) In the first paper it is proved that this is indeed so when \({\mathfrak G}\) is p-unipotent. Using a recent result of \textit{J. C. Jantzen} [Abh. Math. Semin. Univ. Hamb. 56, 191-219 (1986; Zbl 0614.17008)] (which in turn was inspired by the first paper under review) they then obtain a generalization of Carlson's conjecture (saying that the support variety equals the rank variety) to arbitrary restricted Lie algebras. The papers also pose several questions and problems on various aspects of Lie algebra cohomology.
