Let A be a generalized Cartan matrix and let G(R) be the Kac-Moody group of type A over a commutative ring R (with 1), as given by Tits. For any real root \(\alpha\), there is a group homomorphism \(x_{\alpha}\) of the additive group \(R^+\) into G(R). The author explicitly writes down the commutation relation \([x_{\alpha}(s)\), \(x_{\beta}(t)]\) in G(R), for any s, \(t\in R\) and real roots \(\alpha\), \(\beta\) which satisfy the following (rather restrictive hypothesis): \[ (*)\quad ({\mathbb{Z}}_{\geq 0}\alpha + {\mathbb{Z}}_{\geq 0}\beta)\cap \Delta^{im}=\emptyset \quad, \] where \(\Delta^{im}\) denotes the set of imaginary roots. This generalizes the corresponding result for finite type G, and in fact the author (as he indicates) reduces the general case, under the restriction (*), to a rank two finite type case. See also the paper of \textit{J. Tits} [J. Algebra 105, 542-573 (1987; cf. the review above)].
