The initial-boundary value problem for the equation \[ u_ t=\Phi (x,u_ x)u_{xx},\quad 0<x<1,\quad t>0, \] is studied, where \(\Phi(x,\eta) \geq \Phi_ 0(x)>0\) for \(0<x<1\) and \(\int^{1}_{0}\Phi_ 0^{-1}(x) dx < \infty.\) Several types of boundary conditions are considered (including Dirichlet, Neumann, periodic and some nonlinear boundary conditions). Global existence and uniqueness for this problem is established by proving that the operator defined by the right-hand side of the equation is m- dissipative.
