Incoming and outgoing waves (Q580591)

The author studies the spaces of solutions to the linear wave equation (1) \(u_{tt}+Lu=0\) with a potential q(x), where \(Lf=-f_{xx}+qf\). The existence and nonexistence of a solution of (1) with locally finite energy and for which the data in the intersection of the incoming subspace and the outgoing subspace vanish in the set \(\{\) (x,t): \(x\leq (t)\}\) are investigated under certain conditions on the potential q(x).
