Let \(1\leq q<\infty\), \(-\infty <a<b<\infty\). For a continuous function \(f: [a,b]\to R\), put \(\|| f\|| =\max \{(\int^{\beta}_{\alpha}| f(x)|^ qdx)^{1/q}\), \(a\leq \alpha \leq \beta \leq b\), \(f>0\) on \((\alpha,\beta)\) or \(f<0\) on \((\alpha,\beta)\}\), and \(\|| f\||_*\) defined similarly with the signs \(\geq\) and \(\leq\) instead of \(>\) and \(<\). For an integer \(n\geq 0\) denote by \(\pi_ n\) the set of all polynomials of degree \(\leq n\). The author proves that if \(f^{(n+1)}\) exists and never vanishes on \((a,b)\) and if \(\hat p_{n+1}\in \pi_{n+1}\) is the polynomial of best uniform approximation of the function \(\int^{x}_{a}f(t)dt\) on [a,b] then, for \(q=1\), \(\hat p'_{n+1}\) is the only best approximation polynomial for f with respect to the gauges \(\|| \cdot \||\) and \(\|| \cdot \||_*\).
