All groups in this paper are finite and solvable. Denote by dl(G) the length of the commutator series of G, Irr(G) the set of complex irreducible characters of G, \(\rho\) (G) the set of those prime numbers p which divide at least one character degree \(\chi\) (1) of G (\(\chi\in Irr(G))\), \(\omega (n)=\sum^{k}_{i=1}a_ i\), where \(n=\prod^{k}_{i=1}p_ i^{a_ i}\) is the prime number decomposition of the natural number n (all \(a_ i\geq 0)\). \(\sigma (n)=k\), see former notation, \(\tau (n)=\max_{i=1,...,k}a_ i\), see former notation, \(\omega (G)=\max \{\omega (\chi (1))|\chi\in Irr(G)\}\), \(\sigma (G)=\max \{\sigma (\chi (1))|\chi\in Irr(G)\}\), \(\tau (G)=\max \{\tau (\chi (1))|\chi\in Irr(G)\}\), n(G) the nilpotent length of G. The following bounds are known, proved elsewhere or proved in this paper. (1) \(| \rho (G)| \leq 2\omega (G)^ 2\) [\textit{B. Huppert}, Arch. Math. 46, 387-392 (1986; Zbl 0608.20003)], (2) dl(G)\(\leq 2\omega (G)\) if \(\omega\) (G)\(\geq 2\), dl(G)\(\leq 3\) if \(\omega (G)=1\) again by Huppert, (3) \(| \rho (G)| \leq \sigma (G)^ 2+10\sigma (G)\) [\textit{D. Gluck}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 101, 219-225 (1987; reviewed above)], (4) \(| \rho (G)| \leq 3\sigma (G)+32\) [\textit{D. Gluck} and \textit{O. Manz}, Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 19, 431-437 (1987; reviewed above)], (5) \(dl(G)\leq 4(\tau (G)+1)\), (6) \(n(G)\leq 2(\tau (G)+2)\). It can be proved that n(G)\(\leq 2\tau (G)\) and dl(G)\(\leq 4\tau (G)\), [see \textit{U. Leisering}, Diplomarbeit Mainz].
