Let \({}_ RU_ S\) be endowed with a Hausdorff topology such that the elements of S induce continuous R-homomorphisms, R-Top be the category of Hausdorff topological left R-modules. U-duality between full subcategories \({\mathcal C}\subseteq R\)-Top and \({\mathcal D}\subseteq Mod\)-S is defined by functors \(Cont_ R(\)-,U): \({\mathcal C}\to {\mathcal D}\) and \(Hom_ S(\)-,U): \({\mathcal D}\to {\mathcal C}\) if every module in \({\mathcal C}\) and \({\mathcal D}\) is U-reflexive. There is always a U-duality between the subcategories of U-reflexive modules in R-Top and in Mod-S. Moreover, every duality \({\mathcal C}\rightleftarrows^{F}_{G}{\mathcal D}\) with simple conditions is naturally isomorphic to U-duality, where \(S_ S\in {\mathcal D}\) and \(U=G(S_ S).\) The properties that are necessary for \({}_ RU_ S\) in order that quotients of certain U-reflexive modules be U-reflexive are described: \({}_ RU\) is a discrete, finitely cogenerated, quasi-injective self- cogenerator which is linearly compact, and \(S\cong Hom_ R(U,U)\) (duality module). The converse statement is also true: if \({}_ RU\) is a duality module, then there is a U-duality between the subcategory of U- reflexive R-modules (which is closed under U-quotients) and Mod-S. The relationship between Morita-dualities and U-dualities is shown. \({}_ RU_ S\) is a duality module iff every U-quotient of \({}_ RU\) and every quotient module of \(S_ S\) is U-reflexive. The duality theory presented in this article may be regarded as an asymmetric generalization of the Morita duality theory.
