Let F be a p-adic field of characteristic zero, \(G=GL(n,F)\), D a central division algebra of degree \(n^ 2\) over F, \(p\nmid n\). It is known [\textit{P. Deligne}, \textit{D. Kazhdan} and \textit{M.-F. Vignéras} in Représentations des groupes réductifs sur un corps local, 33-117 (1984; Zbl 0583.22009) and \textit{J. Rogawski}, Duke Math. J. 50, 161-196 (1983; Zbl 0523.22015)] that there is a one-one correspondence between the irreducible representations of \(D^ x\) and the discrete series representations of G which preserves (among others) the (formal) degree. In this article the (formal) degrees of the representations on both sides of this correspondence are computed. As a consequence one sees that the correspondence carries representations of \(D^ x\) belonging to admissible characters of a subfield of D of degree n over F to supercuspidal representations of G whereas representations of \(D^ x\) belonging to admissible characters of subfields of smaller degree correspond to generalized special representations.
