    The following theorem is proved: Let R be a commutative reduced ring and let \(f_ 1,...,f_ n\in R[x_ 1,...,x_ n]\), \(n\geq 2\), be such that \(R[f_ 1,...,f_ n]=R[x_ 1,...,x_ n]\), i.e. \(F=(f_ 1,...,f_ n):\quad R[x_ 1,...,x_ n]\to R[x_ 1,...,x_ n]\) is an R- automorphism. Then F is completely determined by its face polynomials \[ f_ 1(0,x_ 2,...,x_ n),...,f_ 1(x_ 1,...,x_{n-1},0),f_ 2(0,x_ 2,...,x_ n),...,f_ n(x_ 1,...,x_{n-1},0), \] i.e. if two R-automorphisms have the same face polynomials, then they coincide. - This is a generalization of the result by \textit{J. H. McKay} and \textit{S. S.-S. Wang} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 52, No.1/2, 103-119 (1988; Zbl 0664.13001)] from the case \(R={\mathbb{C}}\).
