In a recent series of papers, N. Hayashi and T. Ozawa have studied the Cauchy problem and the theory of scattering for the Schrödinger-Hartree equation \[ (1)\quad i\dot u=-()\Delta u+V_ 1+(V_ 2*| u|^ 2)u, \] where u is a complex valued function defined in space time \({\mathbb{R}}^{n+1}\), the upper dot denotes the time derivative, \(\Delta\) is the Laplace operators in \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\), \(V_ 1\) and \(V_ 2\) are two real functions, with \(V_ 2\) even, and * denotes the convolution in \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\). One of the tools used to obtain a priori estimates of the solutions of (1) is an identity satisfied by those solutions and involving in particular the \(L^ 2\)-norms of their second order derivatives [see \textit{N. Hayashi} and \textit{T. Ozawa}, J. Funct. Anal. 85, No.2, 307-348 (1989), (3.87); and Math. Z. 200, No.4, 467-483 (1989; Zbl 0646.35020), (2.27)]. However, the formal (algebraic) proof of that identity, given in J. Funct. Anal. (loc. cit.), is rather complicated. Here, we give a simple proof of the same identity. We assume sufficient smoothness and decrease at infinity throughout and concentrate on the algebraic part of the derivation.
