    Pointwise convergence properties of the spherical summation operators \(S_ Rf(x)=\int_{| \xi | \in R}\hat f(\xi)e^{2\pi_{ix}\cdot \xi}d\xi\) are considered. The first result is a localisation theorem. Theorem 1. If \(f\in L^ p({\mathbb{R}}^ n)\), \(2\leq p<2n/n-1\), \(n\geq 2\), and if \(f=0\) a.e. on an open set \(\Omega\), for \(S_ Rf\to 0\) a.e. on \(\Omega\). The second is a (weak) n-dimensional form of the Kolmogorov-Selinenstov-Plessner theorem. Theorem 2. If \(f\in L^ p({\mathbb{R}}^ n)\), \(2\leq p<2n/n-1\), \(n\geq 2\), and if \(\forall \psi \in C^{\infty}_ C\), the function \(g=\psi f\) satisfies \(\int | \hat g(\xi)|^ 2(1+\ell^+_ S| \xi |)^ 2d\xi <\infty\), then \(S_ Rf\to f\) a.e. Convergence of \(S_ Rf\) to f is then studied when it is assumed that f belongs to certain Sobolev spaces. As a tool, certain estimates in Bochner-Riesz means of negative order are required and proved.
