It is established that a compact Lamperti operator between Banach lattices E and F, where E and F have order continuous norms and E has no atoms, is the zero operator. An operator T is a Lamperti operator if Tx is orthogonal to Ty whenever x is orthogonal to y. Orthomorphisms, multiplication operators, and composition operators are examples of Lamperti operators. This result is not valid in general and was previously only known for a small subclass of the above Lamperti operators. The proof incorporates a type of representation of Lamperti operators due to \textit{C. Kan} [Can. J. Math. 30, No.5, 1206-1214 (1978; Zbl 0368.47006)] together with an embedding of a Banach lattice (with oder continuous norm and weak order unit) between an \(L^{\infty}\)-space and an \(L^ 1\)-space.
