The authors introduced the notion of maximal ordered fields of finite rank, established the existence of such fields and determined the structure [ibid. 17, 157-167 (1987; Zbl 0627.12016), ibid. 18, 219-225 (1988; Zbl 0652.12017)]. In this paper the following results are proved. (1) Let \(K_ i\) be a maximal ordered field extension of the ordered field \(F_ i\) \((i=1,2)\). If \(\sigma\) is an order preserving isomorphism of the ordered field \(F_ 1\) to \(F_ 2\), then there exists an order preserving isomorphism \(\tau\) of \(K_ 1\) to \(K_ 2\) which extends \(\sigma\). An example is given to show that this \(\tau\) need not be unique. (2) Suppose F is an ordered field and K is an ordered extension of F which is also a maximal ordered field. Then there exists a subfield \(F'\) of K containing F such that \(F'\) is a maximal extension of K.
