A well known result in the theory of finite groups of Lie type in characteristic p is that the reduced Lefschetz module of the building is projective. The authors now investigate for which of the so called sporadic geometries in characteristic p the corresponding reduced Lefschetz module has the same property. Here characteristic p means that all geometric parameters are powers of a prime p. The term sporadic geometry is defined to be a geometry which can be found in one of the standard references (stated in the paper). In fact it turns out that the Lefschetz module in most of the cases does not have this property. But there are still too many cases to be stated here where it has the property of being projective. The main tool in this paper is a condition due to \textit{P. Webb} [Comment. Math. Helv. 62, 135-167 (1987; Zbl 0616.20022)] for testing projectivity.
