Consider a homogeneous space \(G/H\) of a compact semisimple Lie group \(G\) and connected Lie subgroup \(H\). Let \(B\) be the Killing form of the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{g}\), and let \(\mathfrak{p}\) be the \(B\)-orthogonal complement to \(\mathfrak{h}\) in \(\mathfrak{g}\). If \(\mathfrak{p}\) is the direct sum of three \(\text{ad}(\mathfrak{h})\)-invariant irreducible pairwise \(B\)-orthogonal modules, i.e., \(\mathfrak{p}=\mathfrak{p}_1\oplus \mathfrak{p}_2 \oplus \mathfrak{p}_3\), such that \([\mathfrak{p}_i,\mathfrak{p}_i]\subset \mathfrak{h}\) for all \(i=1,2,3\), then the space \(G/H\) is called \textit{three-locally-symmetric} or \textit{generalized Wallach space}. This class of compact homogeneous spaces was introduced in the paper [the reviewer, Sib. Math. J. 41, No.1, 168--172 (2000; Zbl 0949.53032)], where the author proved the existence of at least one invariant Einstein metric on every such space. Later, invariant Einstein metrics on these spaces were studied in the paper [\textit{A. M. Lomshakov} et al., Mat. Tr. 6, No. 2, 80--101 (2003; Zbl 1054.53067)], where the authors proved that there are at most four invariant Einstein metrics (up to homothety) on every three-locally-symmetric space. In the paper under review, the authors obtain (Theorem 3.15) the classification of three-locally-symmetric spaces for a connected, compact and simple Lie group \(G\). The main tools are the correspondence between the classification of three-locally-symmetric spaces \(G/H\) and that of certain involution pairs of \(\mathfrak{g}\). Furthermore, the authors study and classify invariant Einstein metrics on several three-locally-symmetric spaces. It should be noted, that the classification of three-locally-symmetric spaces (even without the assumption that \(G\) is simple) is obtained also (by a different method) in the paper [the reviewer, Geom. Dedicata 181, 193--212 (2016; Zbl 1341.53079)].
