Let \(U_{\infty}\) be a vector space, over a field F of characteristic 0, with basis \(\{...,u_{-m},...,u_{-1},u_ 1,...,u_ m,...\}\); and let (for \(\ell \geq 1)\) \(U_{\ell}\) be the subspace spanned by \(\{u_ i\}_{| i| \leq \ell}\). Let (,) be the nondegenerate alternating bilinear form on \(U_{\infty}\) defined by \((u_ i,u_ j)=\delta_{i,- j} sgn j.\) The author of the paper under review has defined and studied (in earlier works) a certain associative algebra \(A=A(U_{\infty})\) (and also \(A(U_{\ell}))\) which he calls generalized even Clifford algebra. He also defined (for any \(n\geq 0)\) a certain irreducible right A-module \(M_ n\), and showed that (for any fixed \(\ell \geq 1\) and \(F={\mathbb{C}})\) it admits the structure of a completely reducible, integrable right module for the affine Kac-Moody algebra \({\mathfrak g}=C_{\ell}^{(1)}\) corresponding to the finite dimensional simple Lie algebra \(sp(U_{\ell}).\) In the paper under review, an explicit basis (over F) is given for the module \(M_ n\). (To prove that it is indeed a basis, the author relies on some combinatorial observations.) This allows, in principle, to determine the formal character of the \({\mathfrak g}\)-module \(M_ n\) in terms of certain complicated partition functions. However, the principally specialized character of \(M_ n\) admits a simpler expression, determined explicitly by the author. He shows that the expression further simplifies if we let n tend to \(\infty\) in a fixed congruence class (mod \(2\ell).\) But the decomposition of \(M_ n\) as \({\mathfrak g}\)-module remains open.
