The paper is concerned with the stability of the basic Couette flow. It is demonstrated that this flow is nonlinearly pointwise stable under the same hypothesis and within the same class of axisymmetric and axiperiodic disturbances as showed by \textit{D. D. Joseph} and \textit{W. Hung} [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 44, 1-22 (1971; Zbl 0234.76035)] for conditional asymptotic stability.
