Let E be a stable holomorphic vector bundle of rank r over a compact complex manifold M of dimension r, and h be a Hermitian structure in E. h is given for each local holomorphic cross-section \(s_ 1,...,s_ r\) of E by \(h_{ij}=h(s_ i,s_ j)\), \((i,j=1,...,r)\). Now let g be a Kähler metric on M:\(g=2g_{\alpha {\bar \beta}}dz^{\alpha}d\bar z^{\beta}\). \(K_{ij}=g^{\alpha {\bar \beta}}R_{i\bar j\alpha {\bar \beta}}\) is the curvature of the metric connection determined by h. One says that the vector bundle \((E,h,M,g)\) satisfies the Einstein condition with factor \(\phi\) if \(K_{i\bar j}=\phi h_{i\bar j},\) where \(\phi\) is a real differentiable function on M. Let F be an analytic sheaf over a compact manifold (M,g) of dimension n, and let \(\deg F=\int_{M}c_ 1(F)\Phi^{n-1}\), where \(\Phi\) is the Kählerian fundamental 2-form of g. Put \(\mu(F)=\deg F/rank F\). According to Mumford and Takemoto a holomorphic vector bundle E over an (M,g) is \(\Phi\)-stable (resp. \(\Phi\)- semi-stable) if, for every subset F of O(E) with \(0<rank F<rank E\), we have \(\mu(E)<\mu(O(E)),\) (resp. \(\mu(F)\leq \mu(O(E))\). If H is now an ample line bundle over M and if \(\Phi\) is a positive (1.1)-form representing the Chern class of H, then E is said to be H-stable (resp. H-semi-stable) when it is \(\Phi\)-stable (resp. \(\Phi\)-semi-stable). The author then proves the theorem: let (E,h) be a Hermitian vector bundle over a compact Kähler manifold (M,g). If (E,h,M,g) satisfies the Einstein condition, then E is \(\Phi\)-semi-stable and (E,h) is isomorphic to a direct sum of \((E_ 1,h_ 1),...,(E_ k,h_ k)\) where the \((E_ i,h_ i)'s\) are \(\Phi\)-stable Hermitian vector bundles. The author presents nine examples of vector bundles satisfying the Einstein condition at the end of the paper.
