Assume that \(u\in L^{\infty}(\partial D)\) is a unimodular function and consider the closed subalgebra B of \(L^{\infty}(\partial D)\) generated over \(H^{\infty}\) by the functions u and \(\bar u\). Let \(\{z_ n\}\subset D\) be an interpolating sequence with associated Blaschke product b. If there exists \(\epsilon>0\) such that the Poisson extension Pu of u satisfies \(| Pu(z_ n)|<1-\epsilon\) for all n, then \(\bar b\in B.\) In this paper, two proofs for this main result are given. The first is based on the Gelfand theory. It is indirect and depends on some non- constructive existence results. The second proof consists of an explicit construction which avoids any reference to the Gelfand theory. In an outline the author then indicates how this theorem leads to a constructive proof of the Chang-Marshall theorem.
