A noniterative computational method for the solution of the time- dependent implicitly discretized fluid flow equations by operator- splitting called the PISO method needs restructuring in the handling of reacting flows. The reacting flows introduce additional species conservation equations and there arise large density gradients and a strong nonlinear coupling of the equations of the species and the energy. The discretized versions of the equations of energy, species and momentum are solved here in implicit form within the same predictor method and the coefficients in the corrector steps are then updated, taking account of the large variations in density. The updating is done only after the continuity-based pressure equation is solved so as to maintain the mass conservation. Energy and species corrector steps now follow each momentum corrector and the method is used in one- and two-dimensional cases followed by a comparison with the iterative scheme. The results show that the equations of reacting flow may be handled efficiently by the restructured PISO method.
