    We call a contact manifold a manifold \(M^{2m+1}\) endowed with a contact metric structure \((\eta, \psi, \phi\), \(\langle,\rangle)\), where \(\eta\) is a contact form, \(\psi\) is the characteristic vector field, \(\phi\) is a \((1,1)\)-tensor field and \(\langle,\rangle\) is a Riemannian metric. Furthermore, if the vector field belongs to the \((k, \mu)\)-nullity distribution, then \(M^{2m+1}\) is a \((k, \mu)\)-manifold. The authors present here a study of invariant submanifolds of \((k, \mu)\)-manifolds which they prove to be also \((k, \mu)\)-manifolds followed by a classification of invariant submanifolds in a \((k, \mu)\)-manifold with parallel second fundamental form. This study contains necessary and sufficient conditions for invariant submanifolds in a \((k, \mu)\)-space form to be totally umbilical and, equivalently, totally geodesic. A number of other results are proved. Among them there are some corollaries for invariant manifolds in Sasakian manifolds, respectively, Sasakian space forms.
