This monograph gives a quick introduction to the modern harmonic analysis of nonlinear dispersive equations, with a particular emphasis on the nonlinear Schrödinger and Korteweg-de Vries equations. The monograph can be used for a specialized graduate course or for independent reading. It deals with complicated problems of analysis in an easy way, which makes reading of this book to be pleasant and informative. Many examples are described as illustrations of the theorems and as the end-of-chapter exercises. Proofs are not long and usually straight to the main points. The book starts with introductory topics, which include the Fourier transform, the interpolation of operators, and Sobolev spaces. Then, the authors study the Schrödinger equation, both linear and nonlinear, with particular emphasis on local and global well-posedness and formation of singularities. The Korteweg--de Vries equation has also received much attention in connection to analysis of well-posedness and asymptotic behavior. Finally, other nonlinear dispersive equations are briefly touched, including the Davey-Stewartson system, the Ishimori equation, the Kadometsev-Petviashvili and Benjamin-Ono equations, and the Zakharov system.
