Let \(D\) be the open unit disk in the complex plane \(\mathbb{C}\) and let \(dA\) denote the Lebesgue measure on \(D\). The Sobolev space \(W^{1,2}(D)\) consists of functions \(u\) with weak derivatives in \(D\), for which the norm is defined by \[ \|u\|:=\left(\left|\int_Du\,dA\right|^2+ \int_D\left(\left|\frac{\partial{u}}{\partial{z}}\right|^2+ \left|\frac{\partial{u}}{\partial{\bar{z}}}\right|^2\right)dA\right)^{\frac{1}{2}}<\infty. \] The Sobolev space \(W^{1,\infty}(D)\) is defined by \[ W^{1,\infty}(D):=\left\{u \in W^{1,2}(D):u,\frac{\partial{u}}{\partial{z}}, \frac{\partial{u}}{\partial{\bar{z}}}\in L^{\infty}(D) \right\}, \] where \(L^{\infty}(D)\) is the space of essentially bounded measurable functions on \(D\). The Dirichlet space \(\mathcal{D}\) is the closed subspace of \(W^{1,2}(D)\) consisting of all analytic functions vanishing at 0 and \(\mathcal{P}_0\) is the set consisting of all polynomials on the unit disk \(\mathcal{D}\) in variables \(z\) and \(\bar{z}\) of the form \[ \sum_{j\geq -l}\sum_{l\geq 0}a_{l+j}z^{l+j} \bar{z}^l. \] Let \(\mathcal{A}_0\) denote the closure of \(\mathcal{P}_0\) in \(W^{1,2}(D)\). Then, in this paper, the author establishes a decomposition of Sobolev space \(W^{1,2}(D)\) as follow: \(W^{1,2}(D)= \mathcal{A}\oplus \mathcal{D}\oplus \overline{\mathcal{D}}\), where \(\mathcal{A}\) denotes \(\mathcal{A}_0+\mathbb{C}\). Let \(P\) denote the orthogonal projection from \(W^{1,2}(D)\) onto \(\mathcal{D}\). Given a function \(\phi \in W^{1,\infty}(D)\), the Toeplitz operator \(T_{\phi}\) with symbol \(\phi\) on \(\mathcal{D}\) is defined by \(T_{\phi}(h):=P(\phi h)\) for all \(h\in \mathcal{D}\). In this paper, the author also proves that a Toeplitz operator on the Dirichlet space is compact if and only if it is the zero operator. Furthermore, the author establishes a relationship between Toeplitz operators on the Dirichlet space and their analogues defined on the Hardy space. Using this relationship, the author gives some sufficient and necessary conditions for two Toeplitz operators on the Dirichlet space with \(W^{1,\infty}(D)\) symbols to commute and their product to be a Toeplitz operator, respectively. Finally, the author gives some sufficient and necessary conditions for the commutator or semi-commutator of Toeplitz operators on the Dirichlet space to be of finite rank.
