In 1970 \textit{J. Clunie} [Math. Essays dedicated to A. J. Macintyre, 75-92 (1970; Zbl 0218.30032)] investigated the behavior of \[ (T(r,f\circ g))/T(r,f)\quad and\quad (T(r,f\circ g))/T(r,g)\quad (r\to \infty), \] where f is transcendental meromorphic in \({\mathbb{C}}\) and g is transcendental and entire and T denotes the Nevanlinna-characteristic. In the present paper there are given 4 theorems concerning the behavior (for \(r\to \infty)\) of \[ \log T(r,f\circ g)/T(r,f),\quad \log \log T(r,f\circ g)/\log T(r,g)\quad and\quad \log T(r,f\circ g)/\log T(r,g) \] for entire functions f, g of finite order with further growth conditions on f and g. Reviewers remarks: 1) In theorem 1 one could get by the same proof the inequality \(\leq 0\) instead of \(\leq \rho_ f\) and so lim sup could be replaced by lim. 2) To get the results of theorems 2 and 4 by the given method, it is necessary to have \(\lambda_ f>0\).
