The paper treats the problem of calculating the probabilities and moments of the distribution of the number of independent Bernoulli trials needed to obtain a success run of length k (geometric distribution of order k) as well as those of the generalized Poisson distribution when the generalizer is a discrete uniform distribution on \(\{\) 1,2,...,k\(\}\) (Poisson distribution of order k). Furthermore, a new distribution, referred to as the logarithmic distribution of order k is defined as the limit as \(r\to \infty\) of the conditional distribution of \(X_ 1+...+X_ r\) given that \(X_ 1+...+X_ r\geq kr+1\) where \(X_ 1,...,X_ r\) are independent random variables having the geometric distribution of order k. Finally, the notion of \(\alpha\)-generalized distributions is introduced and used to study the interrelationships between the above distributions.
