The book provides a survey of results on construction of Hadamard matrices including the Paley, Williamson, Baumert-Hall, Goethals-Seidel, Wallis-Whiteman, Golay-Turyn, and Plotkin methods, as well as some improvements and generalizations of these methods developed mainly by the author and other Soviet mathematicians. It consists of three chapters divided into 9 sections, and two appendices containing a list of unsolved problems and tables of block-circulant Hadamard matrices. Chapter 1 is devoted to various constructions of ordinary Hadamard matrices. In Chapter 2 generalized Hadamard matrices in the sense of Butson, and high-dimensional Hadamard matrices are considered. In the last Chapter 3 applications of Hadamard matrices in information theory, design theory, and other fields are discussed. The references include 329 titles, most of them published before 1980.
