Let G be a connected semisimple algebraic group over \({\mathbb{C}}\), and \(G_{{\mathbb{R}}}^ a \)real form of G. The localization theory of Beilinson-Bernstein associates to any Harish-Chandra module M, with the same infinitesimal character as the trivial representation, a \({\mathfrak D}\)-module \({\mathfrak M}\) over the flag variety \({\mathfrak B}\) of G. The study of these localized Harish-Chandra modules is the connection between representation theory and the geometry of the flag variety in the proof of the Kazhdan-Lusztig conjectures. If one considers the solution complex sol(\({\mathfrak M})={\mathbb{R}} \underline{Hom}_{{\mathfrak D}}({\mathfrak M},{\mathfrak O})\), D. Vogan observed that one can recover in its stalks, the antidominant weight spaces of the homology groups \(H_ i({\mathfrak n}_ x,M)\), \(x\in {\mathfrak B}\). Here \({\mathfrak n}_ x\) is the nilradical of a Borel subalgebra corresponding to \(x\in {\mathfrak B}.\) In this article, we introduce generalized Jacquet modules \(J^ q_{{\mathfrak n}_ x}M\). These are \({\mathfrak g}\)-modules in a category \({\mathfrak O}'\), related to the B-G-G category \({\mathfrak O}\). For almost all \(x\in {\mathfrak B}\), \(J^ q_{{\mathfrak n}_ x}M=0\) if \(q>0\), and \(J^ 0_{{\mathfrak n}_ x}M\) is the usual Jacquet module of M. We show that by localizing M in a different way, it is possible to obtain, not only the antidominant weight space of \(H_ q({\mathfrak n}_ x,M)\), \(q=0,1,...\), but all the \({\mathfrak g}\)-modules \(J^ q_{{\mathfrak n}_ x}M\), \(q=0,1,...\), in the stalks of a solution complex \({\mathbb{J}}M.\) As a first application the finite dimensionality of \({\mathfrak n}_ x\)- homology for all x is recovered from the finiteness results of Kashiwara for holonomic \({\mathfrak D}\)-modules. The solution complex \({\mathbb{J}}M\) is also connected with the asymptotics of matrix coefficients of M. This gives, as second application, a direct connection of the generalized Jacquet modules to asymptotics (by holomorphic continuation to G), extending results of H. Hecht and W. Schmid.
