Let \(\{R_ n^{(\alpha,\beta)}(x)\}_{n\geq 1}\) be the system of orthogonal polynomials on \([-1,+1]\) corresponding to the weight function \(| x|^{2\alpha +1}(1-x^ 2)^{\beta}\) \((\alpha,\beta >-1\), \(| x| \leq 1)\) and let \(Y_ n\) be the set of roots of \(R_ n^{(\alpha,\beta)}(x)\). Let \(H_ n(f,x)=H_ n(f,Y_ n,x)\) be the Hermite-Fejér polynomial. Theorem: Let \(\beta =[2\alpha]+1\), \(P=p+1-(-1)^ n,\) \(q=[\beta]+1\). For \(f\in C[-1,+1]\), \(\lim_{n}\| H_ n(f)-f\| =0\) if and only if \(H_{2n}(f,0)\to f(0),\) \(H_ n^{(r)}(f,0)=o(n^ r)\) \((r=1,2,...,P- 1\), if \(\alpha\geq 1/2)\), \(H_ n(f,1)\to f(1)\) and \(H_ n(f,-1)\to f(- 1)\). Moreover, if \(\beta\geq 1\) then \(H_ n^{(r)}(f,1)=o(n^{2r})\) and \(H_ n^{(r)}(f,-1)=o(n^{2r}),\) \(r=1,2,...,q-1\).
