A full algebraic combinatorial geometry over a field F has points that are algebraically closed fields \(\overline{F(x)}\) of transcendence degree 1 over F, lines that are algebraically closed fields \(\overline{F(x,y)}\) of transcendence degree 2 over F and so on to higher dimensions. These are not projective geometries. Suppose that F has characteristic p. The author shows that the polynomials in \(F(X_ 1,...,X_ n)\) define a projective subgeometry of the full algebraic combinatorial geometry of \(\overline{F(X_ 1,...,X_ n)}\). The subgeometry is pappian if and only if \(F=GF(p)\).
